Location

Wickham play on the southern outskirts of Rookesbury Park, to the north of the B2177 in between Wickham and Boarhunt.

How to get there

Head west out of Portsmouth on the M27 and come off at junction 10, signposted A32 Alton.  Follow the A32 north until you arrive at Wickham where you will come to a mini-roundabout.  Take the second exit, signposted Alton A32, and continue along here for about a quarter of a mile until you come to the Church on the right-hand side.  Turn right just before the church along the B2177, signposted Southwick and Rookesbury Park School.  Pass Pines Garage on the right-hand side and a little further along the road, again on the right-hand side pass “Black Cottage Lane”.  Very shortly after this, still on the right-hand side of the road is a house called “Rookery Nook” and a few yards further on on the left-hand side of the road is a small, inconspicuous entrance to a rough lane which may have a sign to Wickham Cricket Club and/or “Holt’s Mead” outside it.  Turn into this entrance and follow the track around that skirts behind the houses to the left-hand side, and this will bring you to Wickham’s ground.  Be warned that this track is heavily rutted and it is not a good idea to bring cars with low ground clearance along here.

Match in front of the old pavilion at Wickham

The rickety old pavilion, now demolished, provides the backdrop to action in the 2006 match with John Lowe showing his defensive nature.
